7 Tips To Clean Stains From A Painted Wall

Cleaning walls can be a very challenging task—even the most diligent cleaners can have a hard time doing it. You aim to get the stains off without damaging the paint or aesthetics covering it. The process is delicate, so you have to perform it gently.

These steps will help you with cleaning your walls. Check BritainReviews to find cleaning services companies and their reviews. On this platform, you will also find online reviews about landlord insurance companies and many other companies running in the United Kingdom.

1.  Gather the necessary supplies

Cleaning your walls does not require any special magic cleaner. You might even have everything you need for an excellent job. The materials you need for cleaning your walls are;

  • Liquid hand or dish soap
  • Water
  • Soft clothes. You may decide to use rags too, but they should be soft.
  • Tack cloth
  • Buckets
  • Stain remover
  • Vacuum with a dust brush attachment
  • Baking soda
  • Foam craft brush
  • Hydrogen peroxide.

You should avoid anything that has ammonia as an ingredient, as it can be dangerous. These are the basic supplies you need to get your wall cleaned.

2.  Protect your floor from drips

While cleaning up your wall, you do not want to stain your floors. It would help if you prepared against this by placing towels at the walls’ base to collect the drips and dust from the wall.

3.  Dust the walls

Do not just throw water over the walls and clean—give the walls a thorough dusting treatment. You can do this effectively using the dust brush attachment. You can also follow up using the vacuum on the walls then wiping it off with the tack cloth.

A foam craft brush will help to remove the dust from the baseboards and the moulding. If you do not have any of the above equipment, you can wrap a dry mop head with a clean rag and dust. As long as it is well wrapped, you have no fear of scratches or dents on your wall or wall design.

4.  Mix water and soap

When you are done with dusting the walls, you can then wash them off. However, you should not just mix soap and water and start washing; there is a standard you should follow. Fill up a bucket with warm water and mix the soap and water in the other. When you soak the cloth in the soap solution, wring it out well before cleaning the walls.

5.  Test a patch of the wall

Even though the solution will be gentle on your walls, it is not a bad idea to test an area on the wall that is not conspicuous. This will assure you that it will not damage the painting or the decorative aesthetic on your wall.

6.  Wash in a circular motion

Start cleaning from the top of the wall to the bottom, cleaning in light circular motions. Avoid applying too much water or moisture to avoid bubbling or watermarks. Also, make sure that your touch is gentle and not forceful.

7.  Tackle stubborn stains

To tackle stubborn stains, use a solution of baking soda and water. The qualities of baking soda make it a natural stain fighter. When you meet a stubborn stain, mix half a cup of baking soda with a quarter cup of water to form a paste. Then gently rub the paste into the stain, and the stain would be gone. You can also use hydrogen peroxide on these stains. Dab it onto the stain, and it should become easy to remove.

Soak another cloth in clean water and wring it well. Use this to wipe the walls to rinse it off. Take another clean and dry cloth to wipe the surface.
